Major fires that were burning in northwest Colorado are under control after charring more than 33,000 acres of remote landscape, fire agencies said tonight,
The Mayberry Fire, one of 30 started by lightning in the region since last Sunday, burned a total of 25,385 acres on remote public and private land 32 miles northwest of Craig.
The Prong fire, 23 miles northwest of Craig, burned 5,150 acres, and the Lone fire, 15 miles north of Elk Springs, charred 956 acres.
A unidentified air-tanker pilot who crashed Wednesday was released from a Grand Junction hospital today after sustaining minor injuries.
Meanwhile, crews in the region began fighting the Porcupine five miles southwest of Rifle today. The fire exceeded 40 acres this afternoon on U.S. Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service property.
The fire started this morning, but the cause is not yet known.
