WHEAT RIDGE — Services for Wheat Ridge Fire Chief Jim Payne are planned at 9 a.m. Saturday at Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada.

Payne, who headed the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District for five years, was fatally injured in a fall from a ladder at his home in April. He died Tuesday.

Representatives of more than 25 agencies are expected to attend, with 40 pieces of fire equipment and other fire and police vehicles scheduled to be part of the procession.

The procession from Faith Bible, 6210 Ward Road, to Crown Hill Cemetery will pass by both Wheat Ridge fire stations.

Payne, 53, began his firefighting career at Station No. 2, 10901 W. 38th Ave. Station No. 1, 3880 Upham St., will host a public reception after his burial.

Prior to his 14 years of service with Wheat Ridge, Payne worked for Coors Ceramics. He volunteered for his local fire department as a boy in Pennsylvania.

He graduated from Arvada High School in 1973.

Payne is survived by his wife and children.
