Getting your player ready...

The Rockies received reinforcements today, adding six players to the September list of call-ups, including prized outfielder Dexter Fowler and former first-round pick Greg Reynolds.

Fowler starred at Double-A Tulsa this season before spending the better part of last month playing for Team USA at the Beijing Olympics.

The outfielder learned of us call-up last night and drove from Tulsa to Denver with his apartment packed in his car.

“Obviously I’m excited to be here. We’ll see what happens,” Fowler said.

Manager Clint Hurdle said the team’s primary focus with Fowler is to get him acclimated to the big-league environment. He will initially be used off the bench as a pinch hitter and a pinch runner.

If the team falls out of the NL West race, his role will expand to include more starts in the outfield.

The only other two position playes called up were first baseman Joe Koshansky and catcher Edwin Bellorin. The pitchers included Reynolds and Jason Hirsh. Matt Herges also re-joined the team from his rehab assignment.

Reynolds and Hirsh will be used out of the bullpen for now.

Franklin Morales was not called up, as the team explored sending him to the instructional league where he would continue working on his mechanics.

Six games out in the division, the Rockies face Cy Young candidate Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants tonight at Coors Field.

The Rockies’ lineup tonight:

CF Podsednik

2B Quintanilla

LF Holliday

RF Hawpe

C Iannetta

1B Atkins

3B Stewart

SS Tulowitzki

RHP Hernandez
