A new contract for Denver’s teachers is a step closer after the district’s school board approved the three-year contract Tuesday.

Teachers will vote on the deal by next Tuesday.

All teachers would get a 3 percent raise this year and in the next two years would receive cost-of-living raises plus 0.25 percent.

The agreement also calls for changes to the district’s alternative pay plan, Professional Compensation System for Teachers, or ProComp.

ProComp gives teachers bonuses for teaching in hard-to- serve schools or difficult subjects such as math or special education.

Those bonuses, or “incentives,” would be increased to $2,345 from $1,067 a year.
