ARAPAHOE COUNTY — A motorist was arrested Monday after briefly leading Arapahoe County deputies on a high-speed chase on Interstate 25.

A deputy near the Dry Creek Road exit at 3:38 p.m. saw a northbound Volkswagen Beetle speed by at about 115 mph, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The deputy gave chase until he realized the Volkswagen was not going to stop or slow down.

The deputy backed off but kept driving. Motorists indicated the Volkswagen had exited at East Arapahoe Road, so the deputy got off there.

The Volkswagen had hit the median dividing the on- and off-ramps, and witnesses said the driver ran off. Officials found Nathan Hurlbirt, 27, in a shopping center parking lot. The Denver Post
