
Saturday. This month’s Free First Saturday at the Denver Art Museum comes with a special treat: the 19th Annual Friendship Powwow and American Indian Cultural Celebration. One of the museum’s longest-running traditions, the powwow is a party for all ages. Throughout the day, join in the fun on the museum’s Acoma Plaza with crafts, games and shopping. Saturday. Colorado’s Korean community comes together to celebrate its adopted home in “Colorado Forever.” The program features traditional Korean performing arts staged by dance troupe Festive Land. It’s an Eastern extravaganza — expect lots of music, elaborate costumes, daring dances and exciting drumbeats. 7 p.m. Saturday. Buell Theatre, Speer Boulevard and Arapahoe Street; 303-893-4100. Saturday. Get the whole family moving, from babies to grandparents, at “Hop, Skip and a Jump Start” at the Children’s Museum of Denver. Designed to promote healthy exercise habits, it’s a full Saturday of activity, including a 5K run/walk, toddler trot and infant crawl. Fun surprises await along the course of the 5K, followed by a “mini- meet” of kid-friendly fun. Proceeds from the race and mini-meet registrations go toward the museum’s many programs for kids. The 5K starts at 9 a.m., fun-run activities are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children’s Museum of Denver, 2121 Children’s Museum Drive; 303-433-7444. Registration is $35 for the 5K for adults, $25 for the kids mini-meet. Kids may join the mini-meet for $15 each, including participation in the 5K. Each adult can bring two children along on the 5K. Registration includes post-race snacks, a T-shirt or onesie, museum admission and all activities.
Today. A hint of fall crispness is in the air, which means it’s time to head south for the giant corn maze at the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. This year’s maze, opening today, promises to be a challenging one. From the air, it looks like a giant planet Earth, surrounded by squiggly dead-ends and the words “Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield.” The Chatfield gardens also offer a mini- maze for kids and two spooky haunted houses for adults and teens. (There’s a separate charge for the haunted houses.) The massive maze is open through Oct. 26. 4-10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays, noon to 10 p.m. Sundays. Saturday. Follow the fossils of Colorado’s prehistoric residents at a free Dinosaur Discovery Day at Dinosaur Ridge on Saturday. Alameda Parkway will be closed, so visitors can roam as they please along the ridge. Volunteer tour guides will be on hand to answer questions at interpretive stops along the way.
