MILWAUKEE — Major League Baseball’s scoring review committee ruled Wednesday that official scorer Bob Webb did not err when he decided Pittsburgh’s Andy LaRoche singled against Brewers pitcher CC Sabathia in the bottom of the fifth inning of Milwaukee’s 7-0 victory Sunday.

Sabathia tried to make a barehanded pickup of LaRoche’s softly hit grounder, but dropped it. Webb immediately ruled it a hit, explaining he watched LaRoche out of the batter’s box and the runner was two-thirds of the way down the line as Sabathia was picking the ball up.

The committee ruled that Webb’s judgment was not “clearly erroneous,” which is the standard set forth in Official Scoring Rule 10.01(a), and did not meet the criteria for reversal.

Cubs still in dark about Zambrano

CHICAGO — Carlos Zambrano visited the Cubs’ team orthopedist to check out his right arm but didn’t have an MRI. The right-hander left his start Tuesday night against the Astros after five innings and 86 pitches, telling pitching coach Larry Rothschild he didn’t feel well and couldn’t continue.

“Until he gets an MRI done, we don’t have anything to report,” said manager Lou Piniella, who added the pitcher would probably have the MRI today.

Piniella also revealed right-hander Rich Harden, who is being given 12 days between starts to rest his arm, has experienced some soreness.

Footnotes.

Angels right-hander Jered Weaver will have Friday’s start at Chicago pushed back to Monday against the Yankees after suffering cuts on the middle and ring fingers of his pitching hand while pushing himself up off the dugout bench during Tuesday’s game against the Tigers.

• Oakland moved designated hitter Frank Thomas (thigh) from the 15- to 60-day disabled list.

• White Sox third baseman Joe Crede is day to day because of a tight back.
