ASPEN, Colo.—A bow hunter who slipped into a creek, then tumbled about 50 feet down a waterfall in Pitkin County has been flown to a hospital in Grand Junction after spending two nights outdoors.
Sheriff’s officials say 51-year-old James Heinritz was injured about seven miles from the Placida Trailhead on Monday. His brother was there and stayed with him overnight before hiking out for help Tuesday.
Three rescuers and a nurse were flown by helicopter to within a mile of Heinritz and administered first aid Tuesday night, but they had to spend another night outdoors.
The helicopter returned Wednesday morning to fly Heinritz to the hospital.
The extent of his injuries wasn’t disclosed.
