The man accused of killing Susannah Chase on a Boulder street as she returned home more than 10 years ago has asked for a new lawyer.
Boulder District Judge James Klein will appoint new counsel for Diego Olmos Alcalde, 39, according to court records. Alcalde’s arraignment, which was set for today, has been continued to Sept. 18.
It is the third time Alcalde’s plea has been continued. “He did say he could not work with his current team of attorneys,” said Boulder District attorney’s office spokeswoman Carolyn French.
He had been represented by Boulder County public defenders Seth Temin and Yasmin Forouzandeh.
Neither could be reached for comment.
Boulder police arrested Alcalde in January after DNA found on Chase was matched to his in a national data bank.
Chase, a 23-year-old University of Colorado senior, was beaten with a baseball bat and raped near her Boulder apartment in 1997.
