He was a quick thrower on the gridiron, so here’s hoping John Elway remains as speedy as he was back in the day when he quarterbacked the Denver Broncos to two Super Bowl wins.
Why’s that?
Because on Sept. 27 he needs to be in two places at once: The Hyatt Regency Convention Center, where he’s to be honored at the Bridge Project Gala, a dinner headlined by comedian Frank Caliendo, and Rotors of the Rockies in Broomfield, where he’s to put in an appearance at the huge Be Beautiful Be Yourself Jet Set Fashion Show.
It can be done if he can get to Broomfield the minute the VIP reception begins at 5 p.m.. He can mix it up there for the better part of an hour and then take off for the Hyatt, where cocktails and the silent auction are at 6 p.m. and dinner’s at 7:15.
Elway is on the Jet Set Fashion Show’s honorary committee and is arranging for members of his Colorado Crush Arena Football League team to model the Saks Fifth Avenue show that’s a benefit for the Rocky Mountain Down Syndrome Educational Fund and ARC Thrift.
Michelle Sie Whitten, executive director of the Anna and John J. Sie Foundation, and Lloyd Lewis, president of ARC Thrift of Colorado, are the chairmen.
The Bridge Project Gala is being chaired by Lulani Antillo’n and Pamela Morris; CBS4 anchorman Jim Benemann is to emcee.
It’s good to know
Benefactors Tim and Bernadette Marquez are among those expected to attend a rooftop terrace cocktail party Wednesday evening to introduce the Denver Scholarship Foundation’s “giving kiosks.” The kiosks — which resemble an ATM but accept donations instead of dispensing withdrawals — will be set up around the community to help the DSF meet the couple’s $50 million challenge grant. Kasia Iwaniczko is chairing the 6 p.m. event held at the Museum Residences at the Denver Art Museum … Janet Elway and U.S. Olympic swim team hopeful Missy Franklin were the special guests at a celebration for the opening of Excelsior Youth Center’s new pool … Take a helicopter ride and help raise money for breast cancer research: Rotors of the Rockies, the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce and the Timbers Hotel host Soar for the Cure on Friday and Saturday. The first night is for adults, with whirlybird rides, food, a silent auction and entertainment by Hazel Miller; family-oriented activities are on tap from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. the second day.
