Using an Internet program, we produced “word clouds” of Barack Obama and John McCain’s nomination acceptance speeches. The more often a speaker used a word, the larger it appears in the cloud. Obama’s speech was about his “promise” to voters; McCain’s was about his love for his “country.” Speech excerpts were formatted through the Wordle website, found at .
Below are word clouds of three great American speeches: Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address, and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
