Getting your player ready...

While Broncos and Raiders players, coaches and fans must endure one looooong day waiting until 8:15 tonight, when their teams are the last to kick off the NFL’s 2008 season, 26 teams got the pads popping Sunday.

Ah, the beginning of a season when fans see visions of the Super Bowl for their team.

Brett Favre gave the Jets’ faithful hope after leading his new team over Miami and former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington.

New England, Indianapolis and San Diego entered Week 1 poised to be the class of the AFC. But already big changes have occurred. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady could be out for the season, according to various reports, after injuring his left knee — an alarming development for the AFC champions. The Chargers lost at home on the last play of the game to Carolina. And the Colts opened their new stadium in less-than-stellar fashion, losing to the Bears.

Other highlights from opening day: Michael Turner, who found himself on the bench in San Diego behind LaDainian Tomlinson before signing with Atlanta, set a Falcons record with 220 yards rushing in Atlanta’s 34-21 win over the Detroit Lions.

Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb passed for 361 yards and three touchdowns, fueling the Eagles’ 38-3 rout of St. Louis.
