Getting your player ready...

Janeesa “Chucky” Jeffery, a 5-foot-10 senior point guard at Colorado Springs’ Sierra High School, has given an oral commitment to Colorado, Sierra coach JJ Owens confirmed Tuesday.

Jeffrey picked CU over Kansas State. She also considered UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, California and Louisville.

“She’s probably the most physical point guard in the state,” Owens said. “There are only about three players who can guard her.”

Playing all over the floor, Jeffery averaged 19.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.6 steals, 3.8 assists and 1.8 blocks as a junior, leading the 22-4 Stallions to the Class 4A state basketball quarterfinals. She was named 2007-2008 big school girls player of the year by the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Jeffery is expected to sign with CU during the early signing period in November. She has been a starter at Sierra since the middle of her freshman year.

Highly competitive, Jeffery was quoted last season as saying she enjoyed “intense” games because “it brings out the best in me.”

Jeffery has said that she received the nickname Chucky because, at birth, her parents expected her to be a boy and be named after her grandfather.
