DENVER—The owner of a Denver-based repair and restoration company and nine current or former employees have been indicted by a federal grand jury on 60 criminal counts.
Jurors in Denver handed up the indictment Monday against the owner of Disaster Restoration Incorporated, Michael Griggs, and several others on charges including mail fraud, conspiracy and interference with commerce by threats or violence.
The indictment alleges DRI hired and paid subcontractors to perform restoration work, but instructed those firms to inflate their invoices above the actual cost of services, then submitted the higher invoices to insurance companies for payment.
DRI allegedly pocketed the difference between the inflated amount and the amount paid to subcontractors.
