DENVER—Opponents say a ballot proposal that would define a fertilized human egg as a person would affect more than abortion.

They say Amendment 48 could also endanger in-vitro fertility treatments and ban some forms of contraception.

The “No On 48” group rallied at Denver’s Auraria Campus Wednesday, passing out yard signs and bumper stickers and inviting doctors who oppose the measure to speak.

If the amendment is approved, Colorado would become the first state to define the beginning of life in its constitution. Both supporters and opponents to the measure say its approval would lead to banning abortion.
