DENVER—A Denver police officer is hospitalized after he was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle early Wednesday.

Police say the officer was hit about 5 a.m. near Federal Blvd. and 6th Avenue, but was able to use his radio to notify dispatch that he had been hurt.

He was taken to Denver Health Medical Center. Denver police spokeswoman Det. Sharon Hahn says the officer is in serious but stable condition with a broken leg.

His name has not been released.

The unidentified driver remained at the scene. Hahn says the motorist could face a possible charge of careless driving causing injury.

Hahn says alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
