NEW YORK — Fans of the fashions that played such a starring role on “Sex and the City” will soon be able to slip into similar styles themselves.
Patricia Field, the costumer for both the “Sex and the City” HBO TV show and recently-released movie, has teamed with HSN to create a 50-piece collection of clothes and accessories inspired by the shows.
Patricia Field Destination Style New York will be sold on HSN and beginning Sept. 24. The line includes inspired by the flower dress Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, wore at the opening of the movie, a motorcycle jacket and vintage-look floral frock.
Field took time out from what she says is her current schedule of 15-hour days to talk about the line during Fashion Week. She’s working on such shows as “Ugly Betty” and “Kath and Kim” in addition to running her Manhattan fashion business House of Field with partner David Dalrymple.
She said doing a collection for the home shopping audience was a logical step, given that she’s both a longtime retailer and that she personifies the “Sex and the City” woman.
“I know that woman, I did the show for six years,” says Field, who was wearing stiletto sandals and a bronze Versace dress that was slit to reveal more leg than a lot of 25-year-olds would dare to bare. Her cherry red hair tumbled past her shoulders.
“Her age doesn’t matter,” Field says of the woman for whom she created the line. “She can be 20 or 50; she has discovered she can enjoy life. She can buy herself a great bag, get a good job or a boyfriend. She’s self-motivating.”
For the HSN collection, Field says she reworked “iconic pieces” she’d used on the TV show and film. Among them is the studded belt that became such a part of the movie that actress Parker nicknamed it “Roger.”
A one-shoulder fire engine red dress, silver leggings, a scarf-sleeved dress and a top printed in a shoe motif are among the items in the collection. Bags, jewelry, gloves and other accessories will be included as well. Prices range from $35 to $200, with the average clothing piece selling for $75. Sizes range from 0 to 16, with denim pieces going up to size 3X.
“I didn’t reinvent the wheel,” she says. “I just put some trim on it.”
