ATLANTA — When Rockies reliever Jason Grilli puts on his cap Thursday, it will be more personal.
All teams will wear the stars-and-stripes cap, which were first featured on the Fourth of July, to mark the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. It is dark blue with the Rockies’ logo in red, white and blue.
Grilli grew up in New York, so he knows close friends who lost family members in the attacks. He said Thursday should be about honoring victims, heroes and those fighting, not politics.
“War is never a good situation. But they are still fighting for our country so I don’t think you can look at it like it’s in vain,” Grilli said.
