DENVER—Composer Marvin Hamlisch has been named principal pops conductor for the Colorado Symphony Orchestra for two seasons starting in 2009-10.

The Denver-based orchestra said Thursday Hamlisch will lead three pops programs each season, totaling six concerts per season.

Separately, Hamlisch was already scheduled to conduct the CSO on Feb. 21 and June 2, 2009.

Hamlisch and lyricist Ed Kleban wrote the score for “A Chorus Line,” which won a Tony and the Pulitzer Prize.

Hamlisch also has won three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys and three Golden Globes.
