COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The wife of a Mexican air force officer working at the Air Force Academy plans to plead guilty to a reduced charge in a fatal hit-and-run on school grounds.
Prosecutors said Friday that a plea deal had been reached in which 31-year-old Veronica Prieto-Gudino would plead guilty to leaving the scene of an accident causing death. She is scheduled to enter a plea Oct. 10 and faces up to six years in prison.
She originally also faced a charge of careless driving causing death.
Investigators arrested her after 65-year-old Madonna Head was struck by a Jeep Cherokee in a parking lot Dec. 3. She oversaw child programs for the academy and was the wife of retired Brig. Gen. James Head, a former physics professor at the academy.
