A donation of $10,000 from the Orvis Company of Manchester, Vt., will help fund the Clear Creek Initiative project, also known as the Golden Mile. Driven by the West Denver Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the project aims to enhance trout habitat immediately west of Golden. The first phase of an enterprise that began in March now is complete. Orvis donates 5 percent of its profits each year to environmental programs.

Colorado and climate.

The Colorado Wildlife Federation will offer three workshops concerning the potential effects of climate change on the state’s wildlife. The first will be in Denver from 1-4 p.m., Sept. 25 at the REI conference room, 1416 Platte St. An event on Sept. 26 from 1-4 p.m. is scheduled at Grand Junction’s Doubletree Hotel, 743 Horizon Drive. A final workshop will be from 9 a.m.-noon, Oct. 25, at the Adams State College School of Business, Alamosa. Call 303-886-7363.

Martin honored.

Tom Martin, a 35-year veteran of the Colorado Division of Wildlife, has been named wildlife officer of the year for Colorado by Shikar-Safari Club International. Martin, who has spent much of his career as district wildlife manager in the Leadville area, was cited particularly for his work in preserving open space for wildlife and creating more public outdoor recreation opportunities.

Commissioners speak.

Two meetings have been scheduled to allow members of the Colorado Wildlife Commission to interact with constituents. Commissioners Roy McAnally of Craig and Dorothea Farris of Carbondale will co-host a 6:30 p.m. meeting Thursday at the Carbondale Town Hall, 511 Colorado Ave. On Sept. 24, newly appointed commissioner Robert Streeter of Larimer County will host a 6:30 p.m. public session at the Greeley Guest House, 5409 W. Ninth St.
