DENVER—Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar says it’s significant that Barack Obama’s first visits to Colorado since the Democratic National Convention will be to the more rural parts of the state.

Salazar says his fellow Democrat is a champion of the issues of rural Americans and will stand up for them if elected president. He says Republican Sen. John McCain has followed the policy of the Bush administration, which has ignored rural America the last eight years.

Obama will make stops Monday in Pueblo and Grand Junction. He’ll follow that up with a visit to Golden in Tuesday.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will make a stop in Golden Monday on the first campaign swing without running mate Sen. John McCain.
