PHOENIX — Buddy the German shepherd is more than Joe Stalnaker’s best friend; he’s his lifesaver, police said Sunday. Answering a 911 call Wednesday, dispatchers heard just the whimpering and barking of Buddy, a trained seizure dog.

After Scottsdale police arrived, Sgt. Mark Clark said, Stalnaker spent two days in a hospital.

Clark said Stalnaker adopted Buddy from Michigan-based Paws with a Cause. Buddy, 18 months, is able to press programmed buttons to dial 911, Clark said. He said Stalnaker’s seizures are the result of a head injury he suffered about 10 years ago during military training. The Associated Press
