CORTEZ, Colo.—A Four Corners agricultural exposition may move from Colorado to New Mexico to save money.
Organizers of the Four States Agricultural Exposition say the San Juan County fairgrounds in Farmington, N.M., offered to host the 2009 show for about $11,000, about a third of the cost of using the Montezuma County fairgrounds in Cortez, Colo.
Expo organizers say they have signed a contract for the new site but have an escape clause that would let them stay in Colorado if Montezuma County makes a counteroffer.
The expo draws up to 17,000 people and 150 exhibitors from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. The next show is scheduled in March.
Cortez is 250 miles southwest of Denver. Farmington is about 45 miles southeast of Cortez.
