TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS — Honduras will welcome a new U.S. ambassador after a one-week delay meant to show support for Bolivia’s leftist leader.
Deputy Foreign Minister Eduardo Rosales says Honduras will formally receive career diplomat Hugo Llorens’ credentials on Friday.
Honduran President Manuel Zelaya said last week he would delay receiving the ambassador to show “solidarity with Bolivia, because the U.S. meddles in that country’s affairs.” Bolivian President Evo Morales expelled the U.S. envoy to La Paz two days earlier, claiming he had incited violent anti-government protests. Washington denied the allegations.
