Backers of a ballot measure that would end an oil and gas tax credit to pay for college scholarships released a TV ad Tuesday that referenced the recent sex and graft scandal in the federal Minerals Management Service office.
The ad from A Smarter Colorado began airing Tuesday. In it, a man facing the camera says “big oil companies” are already trying to deceive voters by saying Amendment 58 is a tax increase.
Holding up a newspaper, the man says, “Now, we read the same companies are mixed up in a big scandal of kickbacks, corruption, sex and drugs — and they want us to trust them?
Opponents of the measure pointed out that A Smarter Colorado took a $100,000 contribution from Gary Williams Energy Co., a company named in a federal report detailing the scandal criticized in the television ad.
