DENVER—Former Colorado Gov. Bill Owens has endorsed a ballot measure that would make it harder to require workers to join a union.
The Republican said Thursday the right-to-work constitutional amendment makes sense.
Labor groups say the amendment would make it too hard for workers to organize. They countered by getting four measures on the ballot, including a requirement that some businesses provide health insurance and a ban on firing employees without a specific reason.
Colorado’s current governor, Democrat Bill Ritter, is working with unions and some business groups on a possible deal that would pull the union-backed measures off the ballot in exchange for business help in opposing the right-to-work measure.
Those talks are ongoing.
