Whether you hold Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis or Kenny Loggins more accountable, ever since “Top Gun” there has been a “need for speed” connection between flying a plane and riding a motorcycle.

Not that you necessarily have to enter the danger zone to get your fix on, either. After all, if you remember that 1986 flick, you’re probably around an age when you can appreciate some of life’s slower moments. Like the change of seasons, for example.

But fall won’t sit around waiting for anyone to find time to plan a backpacking trip or a mountain biking tour before those golden aspens round the cold, stark turn toward winter.

Sometimes you just need a quick fix, a way to get away and get your autumn splendor on without breaking the vacation bank. And, just for old times’ sake, it might be nice to feel your pulse while you’re out there. Here are a few suggestions to help fulfill those needs.
