DENVER—A Colorado Republican is parting with her party on a $700 billion bailout for financial institutions the Bush administration says is necessary to avoid a possible economic collapse.

Republican Marilyn Musgrave says she opposes the bailout and blasts Wall Street executives for what she calls “lavish excesses.”

Musgrave is a conservative now locked in a tough re-election campaign in an eastern Colorado seat Democrats hope to pick up. Musgrave has in recent weeks distanced herself from the GOP and has run television commercials showing her with Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar.
