Getting your player ready...

So, Eddie Royal was asked after the Broncos’ latest defeat-defying day at the office, do you feel pressure to put up seven points every time you’re on the field?

“Nah, I feel excited about it,” Royal said. “We feel like we can do that. The way this offensive line is blocking and the way Jay is throwing the ball, that’s what we’re thinking every drive.”

My initial reaction? Of course Royal says the offense isn’t feeling the pressure. Consider the source. Players are supposed to say stuff like that.

One look at the Broncos’ defense and the Broncos’ offense can’t help but feel the heat. Denver has put up a league-leading 114 points in three games, but has narrowly escaped with one- and two-point victories on back-to-back Sundays.

More numbers: The Broncos’ offense has scored an amazing 13 touchdowns on 30 drives. Jay Cutler, who didn’t throw his eighth touchdown pass until Week 7 in 2008, needed nine quarters to do it this season.

But the Broncos needed an Ed Hochuli phantom whistle and a missed 43-yard field goal by Martin Gramatica to pull out dramatic victories over the Chargers and Saints. Oh, and did I mention that LaDainian Tomlinson was hobbling on a sore toe and Marques Colston didn’t play?

Hey, at least we don’t have to worry about the Broncos being overconfident. Any notion of a missed tackle here or a blown assignment there being this defense’s only problems is just players talking like they’re supposed to talk.

If you’ve watched the Broncos’ first three games, you know better.
