METAIRIE, La. — Tight end Jeremy Shockey, the Saints’ second-leading receiver through three games, is expected to be out for three to six weeks because of a sports hernia.
Shockey had 16 receptions for 151 yards during the Saints’ first three regular-season games. He played in Sunday’s 34-32 loss at Denver, catching five passes for 56 yards.
On Monday, Saints spokesman Greg Bensel confirmed a report on the (New Orleans) Times-Picayune’s website that Shockey was scheduled to have surgery this week.
Quinn to get more reps in practice
BEREA, Ohio — Browns coach Romeo Crennel said backup quarterback Brady Quinn will get increased reps with the first team this week and, if necessary, he could replace Derek Anderson on Sunday against the Bengals.
Anderson has played erratically since the start of the season, and the Browns would head into their bye week 0-4 if they lose to the Bengals.
“We have to look at all of the positions,” Crennel said. “We’ll definitely try to get the other guy (Quinn) ready and get him ready to go, and we’ll see how it progresses from there.”
Anderson has struggled mightily in three games this season, completing 43-of-93 passes for 405 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions. He has a quarterback rating of 43.5.
Crennel said no decision has been made about Sunday’s starter.
“I’ve told Quinn all along that he’s one play away,” Crennel said. “That’s the way he has to approach it.
Quinn handled the developments diplomatically.
“You just have to keep preparing. Every week it’s the backup’s job to be ready to be the starter. Nothing’s changed,” Quinn said.

“My goal is to come back and play as soon as possible,” Westbrook said. “I’m going to do everything it takes. It’s painful. It’s going to be painful. You have ligaments and tendons in there that may have been sprained.”

His father, William Clay Ford, is the owner and chairman of the franchise.
The Lions (0-3) are an NFL- worst 31-84 since hiring Millen.

The National Football Post, a website that lists Harris’ agent as a contributor, reported the injury could end Harris’ season, but the player was seeking a second opinion.
