Kids, gardeners and anyone with a healthy appetite for gee-whiz facts should head to Jared’s Nursery at 11 a.m. Saturday for the the third annual Rocky Mountain Giant Vegetable Growers weigh-off. Highlights from last year’s event included a 1,000-pound pumpkin measuring 12 feet in circumference, gourds measuring 10 feet in length and a heaviest-green- squash competition. Style help for handywomen

“Artwork and Accessories” and “Design on a Budget” are two new interior decorating classes offered by Workshop for Women, a Denver nonprofit organization that aims to help women gain control over their home-maintenance and -repair issues. Designers make their mark

Six local interior designers have refurbished high-end condominiums at the Watermark Luxury Residences, 410 Acoma St., to benefit of The Kempe Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect. Tonight one of them will be named winner of the 2008 Make Your Mark Project at the foundation’s fall gala and children’s fashion show, which also will be hosted by the Watermark. A portion of the sale of each condo will be donated to the foundation, and each month between now and next spring, one of the six residences will be featured in Colorado Homes and Lifestyles magazine. Eco-friendly building materials

On Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Boulder Green Building Guild, a nonprofit trade organization representing a wide range of green-building professionals, will host a program called “Green After Dark: Green Materials for Your Home.” The event will offer advice for choosing eco-friendly building materials and designing pieces that enhance the home without harming the environment.
