Nearly a million voter-registration cards will be sent out in Spanish-language newspapers over the weekend, part of an expansive strategy to register Latino voters in seven states, including Colorado.
Although the state’s Latino voters are being targeted by a number of efforts this year, this one — sponsored by interest groups and Spanish-language media — is an effort to turn a large rise in new citizens that has occurred over the last several years into new voters.
In Colorado, the registration cards will be distributed in El Semanario, a bilingual newspaper that reaches mainly the metro area. This and similar efforts in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, New York and Texas will be tracked to determine how many of the cards are turned in.
