Colorado guard Whitney Houston tore her ACL working out Wednesday and will miss this season. She will have surgery on her left knee within the next two weeks, the school announced today.

The junior point guard will use a redshirt season and have two years of eligibility remaining. She has started in 20 games the past two seasons, averaging 6.1 points and 1.8 assists in 59 games overall.

“Whitney Houston is a special young woman,” coach Kathy McConnell-Miller said in a news release. “I have watched her grow and mature over the past two years meeting so many different challenges. She is tough and she will respond. We will turn this into a positive for Whitney and our program.”

The coach also announced that sophomore guard Chelsea Dale had surgery earlier this month on ligaments in her right ankle. Dale, who played in 12 games last season, is expected to return in December.
