CENTENNIAL, Colo.—A Centennial high school has been declared safe after more than a dozen students were hospitalized when a gallon of hydrochloric acid intended to be used to clean the school’s pool spilled.

Authorities say 14 students were treated and released Wednesday after hydrochloric acid spilled at Eaglecrest High School in Arapahoe county.

School spokesman Tustin Amole says the school was evacuated and after-school activities canceled after the spill just before 3 p.m.

Fire officials say 20 gallons of hydrochloric acid spilled onto a sidewalk while a drum of the chemical was being unloaded.

Authorities declared the school safe at about 7 p.m.
