A fire today in an interior stairwell of Arvada High School — which caused the school to be evacuated — was intentionally set, officials for the Arvada Fire Protection District said this afternoon.
Arvada fire crews arrived at the school at 10:22 a.m. and assisted an Arvada police officer, who had put out a majority of the fire before they arrived.
Firefighters used a second extinguisher to put out the remaining fire.
Students were evacuated for about 30 minutes before returning to class after the smoke cleared.
There were no injuries.
A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to call the arson tipline at 1-877-892-7766.
