The Boulder County district attorney’s office and Boulder police said today that one driver involved in a fatal car crash will face charges, but another in a separate fatality two days later will not.
Sarah Lavigne, 33, of Boulder will be charged with a misdemeanor count of careless driving resulting in death for the Sept. 19 incident that killed bicyclist Matthew Powell, 49.
Lavigne was turning left off 14th Street onto Mapleton Avenue when she hit Powell.
In the Sept. 21 accident, investigators determined that 19-year-old Jake Strickler ran a red light because his brakes failed.
Strickler hit the driver’s side of a Ford Bronco driven by 87-year-old Meda Coleman of Boulder in the intersection of 30th Street and Arapahoe Avenue. Coleman was killed.
