DENVER—Former Colorado State Patrol Chief John N. Dempsey, a 30-year veteran of the force, died Tuesday. He was 68.
The State Patrol said Wednesday Dempsey died of complications from a prolonged illness. No other details were released.
Dempsey was chief for 12 years until his retirement in 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Sillars, former deputy director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety, and three daughters, Lynn Hovde, Joy Wentzel and Jan Dempsey-Simkins.
Services are scheduled Monday at West Bowles Community Church in Littleton.
