UNITED NATIONS — The U.N. on Wednesday urged rebels from the Lord’s Resistance Army to free 90 schoolchildren abducted two weeks ago in eastern Congo.
U.N. officials blamed the Lord’s Resistance Army, which has waged one of Africa’s longest and most brutal rebellions, for abducting the children. Formed more than 20 years ago, the group has become notorious for raping children and using them as soldiers.
