WASHINGTON — Colorado Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar has given a speech on the Senate floor praising his Republican colleague, Wayne Allard, as a “strong voice for fiscal responsibility and for protecting America at home and abroad.”

Allard is retiring when his term ends in January, making good on a promise to serve only two terms in the Senate.

In his speech Thursday, Salazar acknowledged that he and Allard haven’t always agreed on the issues but that he has always respected him.

Salazar said Allard “served with honor and distinction, and with an unyielding focus on what he thinks is best for our state.”

Allard was elected to the House in 1991 and the Senate in 1996.
