PHILADELPHIA — All-pro running back Brian Westbrook broke two ribs in the Eagles’ 23-17 loss to Washington on Sunday, though he kept playing and finished the game.
Westbrook missed one game this season with an ankle injury, but it’s too early to know if his latest injury will keep him out of Sunday’s game at San Francisco.
“We just have to see,” coach Andy Reid said Monday. “We have to see how it all works out and exactly the pain level there. Right now, he’s very sore, so we’ll see how things go over the next few days.”
“Do I want to be out there at 45 percent and not wanting to take a hit and hurting this team more than I’m helping it?” Westbrook asked on his radio show on 950 ESPN. “No. . . . I wouldn’t want to set the team back like that.”
Warner mulls retirement
TEMPE, Ariz. — Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner said that after this season he will take his closest look yet at retiring from the NFL.
The scary injury to teammate Anquan Boldin, combined with other factors, has led him to give more serious consideration to leaving the game.
“I’m definitely considering retirement more than I ever have before,” the 37-year-old quarterback said, “but that doesn’t mean it’s more than 50 percent or anything like that. I’m just going to consider it.”
Henderson placed on IR
NEW ORLEANS — Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson will miss the rest of the season after being placed on injured reserve because of dislocated toes on his left foot.
Rams lose McMichael
ST. LOUIS — Rams tight end Randy McMichael was put on injured reserve with a broken right leg suffered in a 31-14 loss to Buffalo on Sept. 28. Former University of Colorado tight end Joe Klopfenstein will start in McMichael’s absence.
Branch out indefinitely
RENTON, Wash. — Seahawks wide receiver Deion Branch has a bruised heel and will be out indefinitely.
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck apparently will be fine.
Coach Mike Holmgren said Branch will decide when he can return based on how much pain he can tolerate in his right heel. The former Super Bowl MVP was injured in the first half of Sunday’s 44-6 loss at the Giants.
Holmgren said an MRI showed a tweak but expected Hasselbeck (knee) to play Sunday against the Packers.
Footnotes.
Bills quarterback Trent Edwards was described as alert but still experiencing postconcussion symptoms, leaving his status uncertain as the team enters its bye week.
• Receiver Plaxico Burress rejoined the Giants, noting he didn’t lose any sleep after serving a one-game suspension for missing a team meeting.
