Veteran broadcast and cable-industry sales executive Marty Sokoler has joined the Denver Newspaper Agency.

Sokoler was named vice president of major accounts and joined the DNA’s advertising management team Monday. He will oversee sales staff and major advertising accounts.

The appointment of Sokoler reinforces the DNA’s commitment to providing a “diversity of advertising opportunities to its growing customer base, be that print, electronic or Web-based,” said Harry Whipple, president and chief executive of the newspaper agency, in a statement.

The DNA oversees business operations at The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News under a joint operating agreement.

Previously, Sokoler ran his own media consulting firm in Los Angeles, which he started in 2006. Before that, he was vice president and general manager of Comcast Spotlight.

Sokoler, originally from New York, said Denver is “a spectacular market with tremendous opportunities.”

Sokoler replaces Greig Smith, who left the DNA last week. He will report to David Murphy, general manager and chief revenue officer.
