BOULDER — Colorado football coach Dan Hawkins has agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2012 season, CU athletic director Mike Bohn announced today.

Hawkins originally signed a five-year, $4.25 million contract effective Jan. 1, 2006. Performance incentives were adjusted and added for the new contract, including increases of $25,000 for being named Big 12 Conference coach of the year; $50,000 for earning national coach of the year honors; $50,000 for winning seven regular-season games and another $25,000 added to that $50,000 if Hawkins’ wins eight regular season games.

Another incentive, listed in his original contract, relates to academic progress.

Supplemental income in the contract comes from radio and television deals and public appearances, and summer football camps.

If Hawkins attains all of the incentives, he could earn about $2.5 million in 2011 and $2.6 million in 2012.
