MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Timberwolves signed free-agent center David Harrison on Thursday.
The 7-foot Harrison, selected by the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 2004 draft out of Colorado, appeared in 189 games in four seasons with the Pacers, averaging 5.0 points and 2.9 rebounds.
Green’s 62 leads Texas Open
SAN ANTONIO — Australia’s Nathan Green shot an 8-under-par 62 to take a two-stroke lead over Olin Browne and Paul Claxton in the Texas Open.
“I didn’t feel really good before the round started and then on the first hole I snapped my drive, it hit a rock and bounced back in the fairway,” Green said. “From there, everything went pretty well.”
Defending champion Justin Leonard, seeking a record fourth victory in the event, shot a 70.
• Phil Blackmar, Bruce Fleisher and Des Smyth shot 5-under 65s to share the first-round lead in the Senior Players Championship in Timonium, Md.
Fred Funk, Scott Hoch, Bernhard Langer and Eduardo Romero opened with 66s and 19 players were within three strokes of the lead.

Rain gives Johnson pole
CONCORD, N.C. — Jimmie Johnson was awarded the pole position for Saturday’s Bank of America 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway after qualifying was canceled because of rain.
The field was set based on owner points.
Denny Hamlin was cleared to race despite an overnight stay in an Alabama hospital following Sunday’s hard wreck at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
• Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick were involved in a scuffle at Lowe’s Motor Speedway after Edwards walked into Harvick’s garage stall and the two engaged in a heated argument.
