MYSTERIOUS ILLNESS KEEPS WINSLOW DOWN
BEREA, Ohio — The Browns sent tight end Kellen Winslow to a doctor for tests after he missed his second straight day of practice with an unspecified “illness.”
Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Winslow, who has been plagued by injuries throughout his NFL career, has been sick for two days.
Crennel would not say if Winslow would play in Monday night’s game against the Giants.
“He’s a valuable piece to the puzzle we have,” Crennel said Thursday. “I know that he’ll want to play, so he’ll do everything he can to be able to play.”
Crennel would not elaborate on Winslow’s condition or disclose any medical problems.
“Not until after doctors take a look at him and see if they can know what it is,” he said.
Taylor returns to practice
ASHBURN, Va. — Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor practiced for the first time since undergoing emergency surgery on his left calf.
“It felt good to be out here running around a little bit,” Taylor said. “But it’s only 17 days since we had it done. We’ll see how it responds.”
Taylor did not take part in all of the drills, and the team was going to be cautious about playing him Sunday against the Rams.
“Pacman” won’t be punished by Cowboys for scuffle
IRVING, Texas — Cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones won’t be disciplined by the Cowboys for a scuffle with his bodyguard that team owner Jerry Jones said resulted from joking banter that got out of hand and was quickly settled.
“They were literally kidding each other,” Jones said. “They were jiving around . . . and all of a sudden one of them starting saying some things, and here you go.”
Dallas police were called to an upscale downtown hotel because of the disturbance late Tuesday night. No charges were filed.
Coach Wade Phillips said Jones would play Sunday against the Cardinals. It remained unclear if the NFL planned any discipline.
Kitna sits out with bad back
ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Jon Kitna’s 36-game starting streak with the Lions is in jeopardy.
The quarterback missed a second consecutive practice because of an injured back, leaving Dan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton to split snaps.
Lions offensive coordinator Jim Colletto said the team might not know if Kitna can play against the Vikings on Sunday until pregame workouts.
• The Lions signed fullback Moran Norris and cut running back Marcus Thomas.
Footnotes.
Chargers receiver Chris Chambers missed practice because of a sprained ankle, and it’s likely he will miss Sunday night’s game against the Patriots.
• Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson (hamstring), defensive end Bertrand Berry (groin), linebacker Clark Haggans (groin), tight end Jerame Tuman (hamstring) and cornerbacks Eric Green (groin) and Rod Hood (groin) are questionable for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.
• Dolphins assistant coach Jim Reid is home recovering from surgery and an undisclosed illness. Reid, who last worked Sept. 24, left the hospital about a week ago, coach Tony Sparano said.
