Officials say alcohol and drugs contributed to a one-car crash on I-25 in Pueblo last night that injured a passenger and shut the highway down for about two hours.

Gina McCann, 18, was driving a 2000 Ford Contour south in the left lane of the highway about 9 p.m. Wednesday when the car “swerved” toward the center concrete divider, police said in a news release.

Zachery Scanlon, 21, a front-seat passenger, “grabbed the wheel and swerved to the right,” police said.

The car then crashed into a guardrail and careened down the highway, colliding into the center concrete divider.

Corey Cozzolino, who was in the back seat, was taken by helicopter to University Hospital.

Cozzolino’s age and details on his condition were not released.

Speed was not a factor in the crash but “alcohol and drugs are factors,” police said.
