Thieves ditched an unmarked police car in Wheat Ridge, but kept a souvenir: a law enforcement-issued shotgun that was stored in the trunk, Arvada police said today.

The car, a 2002 Ford Taurus, had been driven home by a Denver police detective. it was taken early Tuesday morning from his driveway in Arvada and turned up Thursday morning.

The car was found about 8:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of Everett Street. No suspect was found, but the vehicle has been turned over to a crime lab to look for clues.

Anyone with information can call Arvada police at 720-898-6900.
