A failure-to-appear warrant has been issued for former Broncos receiver David Kircus.

Kircus, 28, failed to appear for his felony assault case in district court in Arapahoe County today, according to the Arapahoe County district attorney’s office.

Kircus is accused of punching a man in the face outside a Centennial home in the early hours of May 20, 2007.

The victim suffered multiple facial fractures.

The former NFL football player says he acted in self-defense.

A court hearing to address Kircus’ absence is set for next Friday. A trial was scheduled to begin Oct. 20.

If convicted of the charge — second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury — Kircus could be sentenced to 5 to 16 years in prison.

Kircus was cut by the Broncos in August 2007, and he was cut by the Miami Dolphins in August.
