CLIMBING

Colorado Mountain Club’s Mountain Fest; at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th St., in Golden; outdoor skills and conservation clinics, rock climbing, photo exhibit, silent auction, dinner.

CYCLING

Ongoing

  •  Road rides each weekend in the south Denver area hosted by the Highlands Ranch Cycling Club; intermediate to advanced; two to five hours; helmet required; free.

  •  Mountain bike camps, private lessons and clinics with Better Ride; for recreation riders and racers; focus on core skills, balance, vision, cornering, energy management, obstacles, drops, etc.
  •  Road ride each Saturday morning led by the staff of Bicycle Pedal’r bike shops in Highlands Ranch; 20 to 30 miles; weather permitting; open to intermediate and advanced riders.
  •  Road bike rides; weekday evenings and every weekend along the Front Range; 25 to 125 miles; intermediate to advanced; helmet required; hosted by the Rocky Mountain Cycling Club.

    Out of the Darkness walk; at Sloan’s Lake Park (north entrance) in Denver; sponsored by the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention; no cost to participate, but pledges are appreciated to help the cause; 9 a.m.

    Denver Gorilla 5.6K; run, walk, ride, rollerblade and skateboard in Denver; start and finish at Wynkoop Brewing Co., 18th and Wynkoop downtown; everyone participating wears a full gorilla costume and helps raise money for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, an international charity working in Central Africa for the protection of endangered mountain gorillas; $99.95 (includes gorilla suit); 11 a.m.

    Nov. 14

    Copper Mountain, 75 miles west of Denver in Summit County, opens for the 2008-09 skiing and riding season; start of weekend festival called Lift Off; weekend visitors who ride the Lift Off chair on the American Eagle lift get a chance to win prizes including lift tickets, season passes and gear.

    Nov. 18-19

    Race to the Cup; at Copper Mountain; top junior riders in North America compete with Olympians and national teams in alpine snowboard races; $3,000 in prize money.

    Dec. 12-13

    U.S. Snowboarding Chevy Grand Prix; at Copper Mountain; Copper pros Clair and Dylan Bidez and other top snowboarders will compete in the kickoff to America’s largest competitive snowboarding tour.

    Gobbler Chase Snowshoe Race; at Copper Mountain; benefits the Advocates for Victims of Assault; Thanksgiving treats and prizes.

    Tri Babes fall training; in Boulder; running and strength-training programs; space limited to 10 participants; Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Rallysport Health Club; $195 for eight-week program.
