PRINCEVILLE, HAWAII — Three Hawaii tourists, including a woman from Parker, are dead from drowning in waters off the island of Kauai.
County officials say two sisters-in-law, ages 33 and 38, were knocked off a ledge Sunday by a large wave and swept out to sea near Queen’s Bath in Princeville. They were from Parker and Washington, D.C.
One of the victim’s husbands attempted to rescue them, but the strong current forced him to return to shore. They were later brought to shore by firefighters and lifeguards.
A 74-year-old Japanese man also drowned while swimming at Kauai Sands beach in Kapaa.
The man was found unresponsive in the water, and bystanders attempted to resuscitate him until medics arrived. He was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.
